Mr James Blackmur is a Consultant Urologist in Edinburgh and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, UK. After graduating from the University of Edinburgh, he undertook clinical training in Scotland. He completed an Edinburgh Clinical Academic Track (ECAT)-linked CRUK PhD Fellowship at the Institute of Genetics and Cancer, University of Edinburgh using human samples and human-derived organoids to investigate gene-environment interactions between vitamin D and colorectal cancer risk. He completed his higher surgical training as an ECAT SCREDS Clinical Lecturer in Edinburgh, before moving to Cambridge for a fellowship in renal surgery. He returned to Edinburgh in 2024 to take up his present consultant post. He has undertaken and published clinical and basic science studies, with his current focuses on small renal masses, renal cancer imaging and on malignant ureteric obstruction.
