Michael Staehler is the Head of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Renal Tumors at Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich, Munich, Germany. Following medical qualification at the University of Munich Medical School and gaining experience in general, vascular and thoracic surgery at both the University of Regensburg, and the University of California in San Francisco, USA, and training in urology at the Free University, Berlin, Germany, he was awarded a PhD for his work on renal cancer at Ludwig-Maximilians University. He founded the first Multi-disciplinary Centre for Renal Tumors in Germany.
Professor Staehler’s main research interest has been the development of novel therapeutics in RCC, particularly in surgical therapy, novel targeted agents and radiation therapy. He is co-founder of the Tuberous Sclerosis Centre at LMU and. He also serves on several Guideline Committees on Renal and is a Medical Advisor to the German Kidney Cancer Association. On the editorial board of several journals, Professor Staehler has published more than 260 articles on renal cancer and is an author on several textbooks. He has an h=index of 59 and a cumulative IF of over 1400.
