I earned my M.D. in 1997 at the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain and my Ph.D. in 2005 at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain, with highest commendation with a thesis about the predictive and prognostic value of molecular markers in testicular germ cell tumours. I trained in Medical Oncology at Hospital Universitario Son Dureta [Palma de Mallorca, Spain] from 1998-2002 and subsequently completed a Fellowship in Drug Development and GU Oncology at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada [2004-2007] . Additionally, I completed a two-year Master Program in Teaching Medicine at the University of Toronto. Upon my return to Spain I have been involved in setting up GU oncology programs with special emphasis in patient care and clinical research. Alongside I have been highly involved in education in medicine by developing learning programs both in the pre- and post-graduate setting and by mentoring several trainees [national and international] at different levels of their academic careers. I have authored over 120 publications covering diverse areas of medical oncology in peer-reviewed scientific journals and have received funding both public and private for several translational science projects around GU cancer. Throughout my career, I have been recipient of the ASCO Foundation Merit Award, the Novartis Young Canadian Investigator Award, and the University Health Network Outstanding Research Presentation Award. I am a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), the European Association of Cancer Research (EACR), European Association of Urology (EAU) and the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM). I am a member of the Board of directors of the Spanish Cancer Research Society (ASEICA) and since May 2025 President of the Spanish Germ Cell Cancer Group. My major research interests include genitourinary tumours, anticancer clinical drug development and education in Medicine.
