Dr. Durán (MD, Ph.D.) currently works at the Medical Oncology Department of Hospital Universitario "Marques de Valdecilla" in Santander, Spain where he leads the Genitourinary (GU) Oncology Program and coordinates the clinical and translational research unit since 2018.
He earned his Medical Degree in 1997 [Universidad de Salamanca, Spain], and his Ph.D. in 2005 [Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain] . He trained as a medical resident in Spain and subsequently completed a Fellowship in Drug Development and GU Oncology at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada (2004-2007). His major interests are clinical and translational research in the area of GU oncology along with education in medicine. He has authored numerous publications in the field of GU oncology and has led or participated in more than 150 clinical trials. He is a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), European Association of Urology (EAU) and the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (SEOM). He currently serves in the board of directors of the Spanish Society of Research in Cancer (ASEICA) and in the GU alliance for research and development [GUARD consortium].
