Dr. Pickering gained an honours degree in Physiological Sciences from the University of Oxford in 1992 and her medical degree from the University of London in 1995. She trained in Medical Oncology in London and was awarded a PhD from the University of London in 2007.

She was appointed as Consultant Medical Oncologist at St George’s and The Royal Marsden Hospitals in 2008 and transferred full time to the faculty of The Royal Marsden and Institute of Cancer Research in 2019. She has held various clinical leadership roles; Lead for Oncology and Chair of the Division of Medicine at St George’s, and current Associate Medical Director for Strategy at The Royal Marsden.

Her major clinical interest is improving the outcomes from renal and skin cancers with the development of new and individualised treatments. In support of these aims, Dr Pickering has been a member of the National Research Group for Renal Cancers, the UK Clinical Reference Group for Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy, and she is current Chair of the UK National Kidney Cancer Audit. She has published more than 70 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and has been involved in more than 100 clinical trials, including as Principle and Chief Investigator.
