Dr. Pickering gained an honours degree from the University of Oxford in 1992 and her medical degree from the University of London in 1995. She trained in Medical Oncology in London and was awarded a PhD in 2007.
She was appointed as Consultant Medical Oncologist at St George’s and The Royal Marsden Hospitals in 2008 and transferred full time to the faculty of The Royal Marsden and Institute of Cancer Research in 2019. Her specialist interests lie in renal cancer, melanoma and skin cancers, and in particular, in improving patient outcomes with the development of novel and individualised treatments through clinical research.
She has held a number of senior clinical leadership roles. She was Chair of the Division of Medicine at St George’s Hospital and is now Associate Medical Director at The Royal Marsden. Alongside this, Dr Pickering is a member of the National Research Group for Renal Cancer, the UK Clinical Strategy Group for Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy and the current Chair of the UK National Kidney Cancer Audit. She has been involved in more than 100 clinical trials, including as Principal and Chief Investigator, and has published more than 70 book chapters and peer-reviewed papers.
