Prof. Camillo Porta graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Pavia in 1989, and then specialized, again with honours, in Medical Oncology in 1993. From 1993 to 1997 he was a research fellow of Research at the IRCCS Policlinico Universitario San Matteo in Pavia, and from 1998 to 2018 he was Assistant at the IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia. In 1997 he was awarded by Schering-Plough for experimental work on free radicals and cancer, while in 1999 he was awarded the “Gaetano Fichera” Prize in Medical Oncology by the University of Pavia.
In August 2018, Prof. Porta was appointed Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Pavia, also taking on the task of directing the Division of Translational Oncology at the IRCCS Istituti Clinici Scientifici Maugeri of Pavia. Since March 2020 he has been Full Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Bari “A. Moro”, as well as Director of the Medical Oncology Division at the Policlinico Consortium University Hospital of Bari.
He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) for genitourinary neoplasms, of the Committee for the drafting of Italian and European guidelines for renal carcinoma, as well as President of the Italian Group of Onco-Nephrology (GION).
Prof. Porta's main research interests are the biology and immunology of renal carcinoma and, from a clinical point of view, the development of innovative drugs for the treatment of various tumors, and renal carcinoma in particular.
